Reservists close gap at top of Division A as Relyon slip up, Division B champions Scuppas sign off with derby win

Newly crowned champions Scuppas finished the league season in style this week with a fine away win at the Cottage Inn, United Services were on first in this local derby match where Geoff Smith skittled well for the hosts with 59, But the champs who are full of confidence had John Barker leading the way with a cool 65. Outsiders ended their campaign as runners up this year when they secured the points on their home alley the Conservative Club downstairs against wooden spooners Stragglers. Ron Smith weighed in with 58 for the Tory side, Stragglers top score was shared three ways with Martin Holway, Bill Holway, and Bob Walters scoring 45 each. Mowers Geoff Milton was the pace setter with a score of 58 as the Barley side made it a comfortable victory away at the Victoria downstairs versus the Odds and Ends, Geoff Downs took the leading role for the Odds and Ends with a score of 50. Ex–Servicemen were successful on their home alley with a good 6 pin victory against visiting W. R. F. C from the Victoria Arms. Dave Gardiner was the Rockwell Green Institute’s top performer with 53, the Rugby boys had Andy Thorne who helped his side go close with 56. All Stars won on the road at the Barley Mow ending Here for The Beer’s recent winning run with Richard Poulsom’s solid 49 helping to secure the points for the Stars, Ross Cobley had the Beers best effort with 44. King Pins eased to victory on their home patch as the Home Guard 4 visited the upstairs Alley at the Victpria, the King Pins S. Powell scored well with 60 whilst the Guard's John Vallance steady 46 was their best effort. Moonrakers narrowly lost on home soil at the Soccer club this week as the Foresters made the trip from the White Horse; four pins separated the two sides as Gavin Harrison struck 49 for the 'Rakers which was topped by the Foresters A. Burland with 52.

Kingpins versus Foresters will complete this year’s Division B fixtures as the game is re -scheduled for 19th March.


Defending Division A champions Reservists Moved to within 1 point of Leaders Relyon this week as the push for the title starts to hot up. League leaders Relyon are feeling the pressure as they suffered another defeat this time at the hands of Bell Green on Friday night at the Barley Mow, 2 wins from the last 5 games has reduced the lead to one point at the top. Bell Green always a strong side on their home alley won by 13 pins with Mike Johnson chalking up 51 for them whilst Johnny Jenkins’s 55 was the best for the bedding boys. Reservists were away on the upstairs deck at the Conservative Club this week as they visited the home of the Angels, this proved to be a tough match as the Angels always a good side at home made it a tight match but the Bradford on Tone men ran out winners by 11 pins, Reservists'  Neil Sparks, Phillip Powell, Steve Tubbs all shared the spoils with 55 for their side whilst the Angels' John Dodden went one better with 56. On the downstairs deck Hots Shots Martin Kerslake was the star performer with a cracking 69 to see off the O. B. A. from the Victoria and move up a place in the table. O. B. A's  Paul Higgs hit 55 for the visitors The Cottage Pies made it 3 wins in a row with a comfortable home win against the travelling Club Rockers. Cam White led the way for the pies with a decent 62, Peter Davies replied for the Rockwell Green Institute side with a credible 53. Muscotts produced the highest score of the night with a splendid away performance at the Blue Ball against home side the Oaks, Bob Irish knocked 60 for the Cottage side, Ash Bright was the tops for the Oaks with 54. The Victoria Arms produced two closely fought matches on Friday as the Wardens won on the upstairs alley by a 4 pin margin over the Rebels from the Barley. Mick Drohan’s splendid 65 for the Wardens saw them over the line, whilst Chris Plant chased well with 60 for the Barley side. Meanwhile on the downstairs alley only 1 pin separated the two sides as the travelling Home Guard 2 took the points against Holywell Lake, Elliott Collett was top man again for the Guard with 61, Scot Newberry replied with 56 for the 'Lakers. Over at the Football club Fireguard A ran out winners on their home turf as the Shooters made the short trip from the Victoria, Greg Gill hit 50 for the hosts but there was some consolation for the Shooters as Adrian Maidment went one more with 51. Queens Legs took the honours as they made the long Journey to The White Horse this week where Report Centre A played hosts, and a worthwhile trip it turned out to be as Adam Nicholls was Star man with a massive 71 for the Legs, Derek Parsons and D. Bennett both scored 50 apiece for the hosts.
